Caramel Apple Oreo Fudge

Caramel Apple Oreo Fudge

Those evil geniuses over at Nabisco just won’t quit. What is up with that? Every five seconds they’re releasing a new Oreo flavor. Pumpkin Spice is debuting September 24th. I never knew a cookie could have a debut. Heck, I never had one.

But with strange marketing savvy born of years creating a totally addictive product, Nabisco is constantly entrapping me. Latest example: Caramel Apple Oreos. I had to give them a shot. How could I not? Caramel apples are one of my favorite fall treats!

Caramel Apple Oreo Fudge

Now, I’m not gonna pretend that these babies went over as well in my mouth as the Reese’s Oreos. What could possibly top that? The thing is, I’m not the biggest fan of that fake apple flavor, the one that gets used in candy. I know some people love it, but not me.

Caramel Apple Oreo Fudge

Half of the cream filling is green, and that fake apple. The other is caramel, quite sweet, and more up my alley. After eating a few (just to make sure I knew how I felt about them, you understand), I decided to put them into fudge. What could be a better fall tribute than caramel apple fudge?

Caramel Apple Oreo Fudge

My initial plan was to make a crust out of the Oreos and then put the fudge on top. But these Oreos are so sweet (yes, sweeter than the regular kind) that adding sugar and butter to make that crust seemed a tad bit excessive. Instead, I laid out a majority of the Oreos in a round pan like so:

Caramel Apple Oreo Fudge

Why the round pan? Because my square pan was taken. It had amazing pumpkin snack cake in it. Usually I’d go with a square pan. Hey, whatevs. I don’t believe in stressing out over the little things. That’s why my house looks the way it does. But I digress.

I poured the easy fudge filling (you microwave it!) on top, crumbled on the remaining 8 or so Oreos, and stuck the whole pan in the fridge. Finito. Except that because the fudge base is made of butterscotch chips, which are not the same in their chemical makeup as chocolate chips. So you need to refrigerate the fudge until it is really and truly firm, which takes more time when you’re not dealing with chocolate. Only then can you bring it out and let it sit at room temperature before cutting it up. The bottom will crumble a bit because you’re cutting into whole Oreos.

Fudge is always a good idea. It makes great gifts, or party favors, or a snack in your mouth. So take advantage of Nabisco’s endless flavor parade of Oreos and get you some of this before the caramel apple Oreo flavor is gone!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Caramel Apple Oreos
  • 1 bag (11 oz.) butterscotch chips
  • 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk (I used fat-free)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:

Line the bottom of a square or round pan with parchment paper. Arrange the Oreos along the bottom of the pan, as shown above. Break the remaining Oreos into pieces with your fingers and set aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the butterscotch chips and condensed milk for two minutes. Stir until the mixture is smooth, add the vanilla, and stir again.

Pour the mixture into the Oreo-lined pan, being sure that the top is smooth and even. Sprinkle the broken Oreos over the top.

Refrigerate the fudge for 2 hours. Remove from the refrigerator and let the pan come to room temperature. Cut into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Inventing new ways to enhance food, especially if that food involves chocolate or peanut butter (or both!), is a passion of mine. I look forward to sharing my ideas with you.

The people over at Oreo never fail to amaze me with what they come up with. I’ve been having to avoid the oreo isles at the store. I didn’t know they made caramel apple ones, but I’m definitely intrigued! They look so good with this fudge too! Pinning this one!

I do think they’re kind of evil over at Nabisco, Danielle. But when you bake, it’s an excuse to buy the new Oreo flavors! I just wish they hadn’t invented Reese’s. My downfall!

OH MY GOODNESS YUMM! They don’t sell those oreos here in London?! 🙁 But these look seriously amazing…perfect for fall. I guess I could add some pistachios in for something green? IMO there is nothing better than a dense brownie/bar which you can really sink your teeth into! These definitely fit the job, I want some!

I’m with you on the dense bars! For the green, just use sprinkles! They’re fun and easy!
